MY UNRELIGIOUS BUT SPIRITUAL ADVICE TO CHRISTIAN SINGLES/MARRIED - Pastor CJ Brothers and Sisters, I encourage you to consider the following so you may not make the right decision based on the wrong reasons. 1. Do not consider someone for marriage because they impress you with long prayers, loud tongues or because they always quote the bible and tell you of their latest conversation with God. 2. Never you measure spiritual life by outward display of religious rituals and activities. Spiritual life is a life lived by the spirit as opposed to the flesh. And the fruit are so easily seen. They are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. (Gal 5:22-23). Look at this list again, you will see that these fruits will make any marriage successful under any condition. So rather than look only at how long he/she prays, look at how patient, kind, and loving they are with people. 3. Where these fruits are at play, misunderstandings can be resolved, difficulties can be overcomed, and who does what and brings in what will not be a problem. 4. You must know that church is where everyone comes to look holy and sanctified so neither judge based on church activity. So rather than look only at the activites as proof of their love for God, look at how well they relate with other church members. If someone says, I can't get along with anyone here except you, note that he/she is the problem. 5. God does not want supremacy of one over the other neither does He want equality in marriage. Rather He designed for the 2 unequal parts to make ONE whole. He gave 2 different sex organs so that the coming together of both creates a ONE bond that nothing else achieves. He made that the man will produce the sperm and woman to carry the baby. If He wanted equality both man and woman should be able to do both. If you want equality which is what the world is fighting for, then husband and wife must have equal incomes, equal opportunities, same needs, as well as abilities, but you know this is impossible. So based on abilities and opportunities, if a wife earns 80k and the husband 20k or vice versa, the ONE earns 100k. Because one way or another, both are contributing to each other's ability. So brothers and sisters, if you are praying to God for a spouse or for peace in your home, you must allow God to change you into a new person by changing how you think about marriage. At the end, the delays in finding that person or the cause of the problems at home might not be arrows from the village or because of what you don't have yet, it might be that you have not yet seen marriage how God wants it to be, rather you are asking Him to make it how you want it to be. "Our best efforts and hard work mean nothing. It takes very little to trip. Years of what we consider hard work and toil can be undone in one moment. Until we learn to realize we are nothing. That we have no power of our own and that its all by grace and dependence on him, we will continue in the rat race trying to be good but there is no good in us without him." Let alone, man does not have what it takes to be good without repeated failure. Unless we understand this, we will continue to give them good, powerful, passionate, and reasonable speeches on critical virtues like integrity and self control, but they will continue to do and live otherwise.
